Absinthe FAQ

What is absinthe?

Absinthe Supreme is an aromatic and highly alcoholic distilled liquor flavored with a variety of more than 10 herbs, most notably wormwood, anise, fennel, hyssop and melissa. Absinthe takes its name from the wormwood, whose botanical name is Artemisia absinthium. "Absinthe" is the French word for the wormwood plant, it is green in colour, turning to cloudy white when mixed with cold water.
Absinthe Supreme is ispired by old genuine Swiss and French recipes, its flavour is rich, aromatic and bitter in taste, with alcoholic content of 60 percent by volume. Supreme is produced in the shadow of the Slovene Alps by traditional distilling methods. The blend of carefully selected premium herbs makes our green fairy the hottest bitch around.

Absinth or Absinthe?
Absinthe with an "e" is the French/Swiss spelling, in Germany and in the Czech Republic an 'e' is dropped - absinth. Italians name it assenzio and the Spanish absenta. Slovenians name it absint. The name Supreme evolved from broad lifestyle which is springed, adopted and developed by members of Urbano pleme (eng. Urban Tribe). Absinthe Supreme is ispired by old genuine Swiss and French recipes, thus spelled absinthe.

What is Wormwood (lat. artermisia absinthium)?
Wormwood (lat. artermisia absinthium) is a bitter herb and one of the main herbal ingredients of absinthe, it contains notorious psycho active and poisonous substance thujone. Artemisia pontica, also known as Roman Wormwood or Petite Wormwood is used in the coloration process.

What is thujone?
Wormwood (lat. artermisia absinthium) contains psycho active substance thujone, some scientists claim it affects the neuro receptors in the brain in a similar way to THC in cannabis. Recent scientific studies showed that one has to consume several bottles of absinthe each day for several years to collect a quantity of Thujone which may have an physical effect on the body. We're sure, you will agree, that you're most likely deadly poisond by alcohol before you will "feel" thujone.

What is with a notorious secondary absinthe effect? What is the absinthe experience like?
Some people claim (and YES they are far from minority) to experience "secondary effects" from drinking Supreme… after all every plant is there for a reason and they all have some effect on the human body, right? By secondary effects we mean effects apart from those due to the alcohol, these effects come from herbs influencing one another. Not all people claim to experience these effects, but those who do say that absinthe produces a markedly clear headed drunkenness. Some people say absinthe enhances their dreams, it has to be experienced to be understood, but in any case it is not a mind- bending trip, it is a subtle experience.

What is “La Louche”?
Louche - French for troubled, disturbed, shady, of dubious character. As applied to absinthe, it refers to the cloudy or milky effect achieved by adding iced water at a ratio of approximately three to five or six parts water to one part absinthe. An absintheur tip: "a properly made absinthe should not louche like a milkshake!"

What is an absinthe Spoon?
The spoon is perhaps the most unique bit of absinthe paraphernalia. It is a slotted spoon designed so that a sugar lump can be placed on it. The perforations allow the water and melting sugar to pass into the glass of absinthe below. Supreme has some modern absinthe spoon designs like no other brand, welcome to the 21st century guys - Buy Supreme spoon.

What is an absinthe fountain and do I need one?
Absinthe fountain is designed for providing a slow, steady drip of iced water into a glass of absinthe. Every true absintheur has its own, but it is not a necessity, you can use a carafe or pitcher instead.

Who are absintheur-s?
Those who are indulging in absinthe charms… otherwise a completely harmless human species that can become very hostile when hearing stupid stories about absinthe. A piece of advice: don’t talk about thujone content in their presence!

Is absinthe dangerous for my health?
It certainly is! Especially if you drink a bottle of it and than try to fly an aeroplane… Generally alcohol abuse is very dangerous, but absinthe won't poison you, make you mad, crazy or blind. Absinthe’s bad reputation comes from the impurities in the alcohol production process that cheap brands once had. Supreme is only made from the finest ingredients and the purest alcohol. It is totally organic.

What is Slovenian role in the “absinthe story”?
Slovenia is one of the regions with the biggest celtic influence, who use absinthe as part of their rituals. Slovenian national drink made from wormwood is called “Pelinkovec”, but the true absinthe was introduced to Slovenian people after a year 1809. The Illyrian Provinces (French: Provinces illyriennes) were formed on the territories lying north and east of the Adriatic Sea. The Illyrian Provinces were technically a part of France, the capital of which was established in the city of Ljubljana - capital of modern Slovenia. At that time French regime played a positive role in a rise of national self-confidence and some positive reform measures were undertaken by the French government. Slovenia and France experienced rich cultural and social exchange, at that time the first Slovenian absinthe was distilled. See the map of Europe and French Empire in 1811.
